Akram Khan Company – October 30, 31 & November 1, Theatre Maisonneuve LiveEvents October 25, 2014 5328 Danse Danse presents Akram Khan Company – iTMOi “A dazzling road trip into the creative imagination of one of our foremost dance artists.” (The Times, London, UK) The charismatic choreographer Akram Khan celebrates the centennial of Sacre du printemps, using as his inspiration the whimsical personality of Stravinsky to create iTMOi (in the mind of igor), a Dantean epic brilliantly performed by 11 phenomenal dancers. Diverging radically from the original work, the British artist and international star joins forces with three major composers, adding love and faith to the theme of sacrifice. Of the mythical musical score he retains only the essence and the rhythmic structures, which he has applied to the emphatic gestures of kathak and raw, hybrid contemporary dance. By mingling cultures and eras in a series of eclectic tableaux that captivate the eye and stimulate the imagination, he conjures beauty from chaos. From the creator of ma, In-I (with Juliette Binoche) and Vertical Road. Length: 1 h 05 Post-performance talk with the artists: Friday, October 31, 2014.
