“The little library that does big things for little kids”!
Since 1929, The Montreal Children’s Library has provided resources for children in areas of Montreal where no municipal library exists. Today three branches provide free library services and activities in Ville-Marie, Little Burgundy, and Ville St. Michel. MCL also offers Outreach programs to hospitalized and handicapped children in several facilities across the city. The Library’s Mother Goose Rhyme Time program, which is offered in local community centres, encourages infants and toddlers and their caregivers to enjoy rhymes and songs together and facilitates language acquisition, parent child attachment and positive parenting skills in a supportive learning environment. Through these varied programs and services, the Montreal Children’s Library connects young people to books and literacy and all that they represent: empowerment, education, entertainment, and sometimes, refuge. Positive adventures at the MCL benefit them for the rest of their lives.
