Klezmer Music and Yiddish Literature – August 12, 2022 LiveEvents August 4, 2022 773 Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) Classical Spree Kumt arayn! Klezmer Music and Yiddish Literature Yiddish culture is undeniably part of Montreal’s DNA, the city being the adopted home of thousands of Jews, beginning in the late 19th century. Its literature and poetry relate a Montreal that is variously working class, community-based, inclusive, and modern, guarded by the immovable Mount Royal. Readings of texts in French and in Yiddish by authors including Jacob-Isaac Segal, Rachel Korn, Ida Maze, Melech Ravitch, Chava Rosenfarb, Léa Roback and Michel Tremblay will be accompanied by klezmer, a style that is alternately wistful and boisterous, though always captivating. Klezmer music performed by: Gabriel Paquin-Buki (clarinet), Yoni Kaston (accordion) Collaboration with: the Segal Centre for Performing Arts as well as the author and Yiddish literature specialist Chantal Ringuet Friday, August 12, 2022 at 6:00pm Théâtre Maisonneuve To purchase your tickets visit: www.placedesarts.com CLASSICAL SPREE 2022 From August 10 to 14 Rafael Payare’s first Classical Spree will be synonymous with discovery and daring.
