From Castille to Samarkand

Constantinople & Accademia del Piacere – 20th anniversary Season

The great masters of the Spanish Renaissance created a golden age of polypony. Into what was essentially Franco-Flemish music of the time they wove influences left by the Moors and by the Muslim cultures so present in medieval Spain.

In collaboration with Fahmi Alqhai, one of the great virtuosos of the viola da gamba, and his Accademia del Piacere, the leading ensemble of early Spanish music, Constantinople embarks on a musical journey through Iberia, Persia, and Central Asia, revisiting music notable for its sumptuous color and exceptionally rich beauty.

Accademia del Piacere

The uniqueness of its innovative projects, the technical ability of its musicians and the strong personality of its artistic director have made of Accademia del Piacere a vanguard group in Spanish early music and one of the leading ensembles of this kind in Europe. Accademia is especially appreciated for the group’s fascinating and direct communication to its audience, and its conception of historical music as being alive and full of emotions, an idea conveyed by the group’s musicians to their spectator from the heart.
