McGill University Schulich School of Music presents

McGill Symphony Orchestra

The McGill Symphony Orchestra brings their trademark energy and artistry to the Maison symphonique! Maestro Alexis Hauser closes his 20th season leading the outstanding student orchestra in an exciting program of Beethoven and Mahler. Winner of the Koussevitzky Conducting Prize of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1974, Alexis Hauser has established an international conducting career with numerous appearances in Europe, North and South America, and the Far East.

Professor Axel Strauss joins the ensemble as soloist in Beethoven’s one-and-only Violin Concerto, a lyrical and transcendent masterpiece. German violinist Axel Strauss, equally passionate about teaching and performing, joined the faculty of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in 2012. Prior to moving to Montreal he served as Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The beloved 4th Symphony by Mahler explores themes of childhood and innocence with soprano Christina Thanisch-Smith singing the stunning final movement.
