A fascinating discovery at Pointe-à-Callière! An archaeologists tell all.
One of Pointe-à-Callière archaeologists will share details of a fascinating discovery made at the Museum in 2020, while carrying out their conservation work on the site of Fort Ville-Marie. Over 1,000 botanical remains were found beneath some loose pieces of wood that were part of an old building frame that had been demolished and abandoned in a basement, leading us to believe that the space had once been used as a root cellar. Surprising, this new discovery has allowed us to learn a bit more about the dietary habits of the inhabitants of New France.

An Archaeo Mission for Families
Created for 9 to 12 years old, this guided workshop invites families to take part in an Archaeo-Adventure!  To earn degrees as apprentice archaeologists, parents and children must first meet the challenges their mission leader has in store for them. They’ll have to use their observational skills and test their manual dexterity by digging up an archaeological site in the Museum… just like the pros do!
