The Mélodînes Concert Season Draws to a Close With Duo Cavatine’s Parfums de Paris

Pro Musica’s Mélodînes concert season will be ending on a special fragrance: Duo Cavatine is offering Parfums de Paris, whose notes you can enjoy on the livetoune.com platform starting May 9 at 8 am until May 23. This duo is formed by Noémie Raymond-Friset on cello and Michel-Alexandre Broekaert on piano.

Duo Cavatine
United by a profound passion for music, Duo Cavatine — Noémie Raymond-Friset (cello) and Michel-Alexandre Broekaert (piano) — is above all a long history of friendship. Their duo’s name is inspired by a Poulenc sonata, the very first they played together during their university studies. Praised for their dynamic and refined personality, the duo display a great complicity and a touching sensitivity, secret of their captivating stage presence. From Bach to Schnittke, Duo Cavatine demonstrates great artistic versatility by presenting a wide range of musical styles. Laureates of international competitions and recently of the International Competition of Music and Fine Arts, Noémie and Michel-Alexandre are uniting their great virtuosity and mastery of their instrument, making them one of the most prominent emerging duets. Their projects include a first album, in collaboration with CBC Music, and several concerts in North America. Very active on social media, Duo Cavatine releases a new musical video each week.

Noémie Raymond-Friset
One of the most promising Canadian cellists of her generation, Noémie was named in the 2018 edition of CBC Music’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30.” She is a passionate musician, praised for her sensitive and refined playing. Noémie made her debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall in December 2016 and was also a winner of the 2018 Stepping Stone, the Canimex Canadian Music Competition, the international Edwin H. and Leigh W. Schadt String Competition, and the WAMSO Young Artist Competition, where she was awarded for her outstanding performance. At the 2017 Prix d’Europe, she received the Beatrice-Kennedy-Bourbeau Prize for the best interpretation of a work, all genres and instruments, in addition to previously receiving the Guy Soucie Award for the best interpretation of a Canadian work. Noémie currently plays on the magnificent “Ex-Curtis” cello by Matteo Goffriller (1700), graciously loaned to her by Canimex Inc. She also owns a Jean-Dominique Adam bow dating from 1835.

Michel-Alexandre Broekaert
It was in the world of chamber music—specifically, in a collaboration between singer and pianist—that Michel-Alexandre Broekaert revealed himself to the world, with Quebec soprano Andréanne Brisson-Paquin as his main partner. In 2011, the duo distinguished themselves in Paris, receiving a special jury prize for the best interpretation of a Francis Poulenc work, as part of the Concours international de Chant-Piano Nadia et Lili Boulanger. They went back for another honour in 2013, winning second prize at the prestigious Lyon International Chamber Music Competition. Michel-Alexandre is very active on the Quebec scene and regularly collaborates with many organizations such as the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute, the Opéra de Montréal, the OSM Manulife Competition, Opéra à la Carte, and the 1 Opéra 1 Heure collective. At the same time, he is the artistic director of La Petite Maison des Arts and serves as artistic advisor for the Société d’art vocal de Montréal. In his day-to-day life, he can be found sharing his chamber music experience with up-and-coming musicians at Université de Montréal and McGill University.
