The award was presented April 23 at the Artistes pour la Paix awards ceremony held at the Maison du Conseil des Arts in Montreal. Founded more than 30 years ago, Les artistes pour la Paix (Artists for Peace) annually honours artists and leading figures in various disciplines, whose actions promote peace and social justice. The organization wished to recognize Ms. Bondil’s commitment to the promotion of peace, particularly through events that promote intercultural dialogue and social inclusion. “From the socially engaged exhibitions Cuba: Art and History from 1868 to Today and Imagine: The Peace Ballad of John and Yoko to the inauguration of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, Nathalie Bondil, Director General and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, has promoted spiritual and social peace through art. We salute her humanist vision, which reflects the essential values of Artistes pour la Paix,” noted André Michel, National President of Artistes pour la Paix. Since 1984, Artistes pour la Paix has: • Fostered the creation of art, free of bias or political allegiance, to promote peace; • Sensitized artists and citizens to actions and means that help the cause of peace; • Organized or collaborated on events, exhibitions and performances that further their objectives, that may include members of their Collective, or that pay special tribute to the most deserving representatives of the artistic community. • Since the presentation of the first Prize to Daniel Lavoie in 1989, the APLP has honoured a Friend of Peace each year with a Prix Hommage as well as an Artist of the Year Award presented to an individual or collective whose art and actions promote peace and social justice. www.mbam.qc.ca
