Vic and Flo Saw a Bear – November 21 to December 2, Centaur Theatre LiveEvents November 14, 2017 2269 Talisman Theatre Presents VIC AND FLO SAW A BEAR Original Screenplay by DENIS CÔTÉ Translation / Adaptation by MICHAEL MACKENZIE Directed by MICHAEL MACKENZIE The story combines elements of a love story (Vic and Flo) with a backdrop of a domestic drama (Vic and Flo’s unfolding relationship, Vic’s uncle and his infirmity and death), the Noir genre (two ex-cons and their parole officer, the terrifying Jackie), something of the horror genre (we won’t give any spoilers here!) with twist of Quebecois magic realism at the end. THE SYNOPSIS : In Vic and Flo, Victoria is sixty-one and on parole after serving most of a life-sentence for murder. She’s in love with Flo, a younger ex-con who comes to stay with her in her uncle’s sugar shack located in the densely forested boondocks of Quebec. But these ex-con lesbian lovers begin to feel under siege from Vic’s nosy parole officer and a mysterious woman from the woods who casts an increasingly menacing shadow from Flo’s past. As Vic and Flo hurtle toward their fates the buccolic narrative tapestry slowly unravels before being violently torn to shreds. Talisman is breaking new ground this fall with the world stage premiere of Denis Coté’s film Vic et Flow ont vu un ours. A genre bending horror/love story, Vic and Flo won numerous international awards including the prestigious Berlin Film Festival Alfred Bauer award for opening new perspectives on cinematic art. Translation and adaptation developed through Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal’s The Glassco Translation Residency in Tadoussac and Translation Workshop Program.
