Monumental Dougherty – June 15 to September 4 LiveEvents June 10, 2017 3112 Monumental Dougherty Internationally renowned land artist Patrick Dougherty has been invited to create monumental and inspiring land art pieces in the Botanical Garden Arboretum. His sculptures woven from willow branches will be true odes to nature, treating visitors to a poetic adventure and paying tribute to these trees in artistic and creative fashion. Inspired by the incomparable beauties of the Arboretum, the artist will be fashioning two pieces “live” and laying the groundwork for a collective piece that visitors of all ages can help to create over the summer. It’s sure to be a memorable natural experience! The artist will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June 15 to 23 (except June 17 and 18) and from July 3 to 21 (except July 15 and 16). Hands-on fun and learning June 24 to September 4, 2017 Starting June 24, come try Building with Willows and learn more about Wonderful Willows! During the workshops, our nature interpreters will be happy to explain all about these versatile trees: their characteristics, properties and uses. You can “branch out” and learn how to weave this unusual material, and then add to the collective land art piece or fashion your own artwork with your younger children. Visitors ages 10 and up are welcome to contribute to the collective land art piece. It is best to wear closed-toe shoes if you wish to contribute to the collective piece.
