Empire City Troopers – December 5, in the heart of Montreal LiveEvents November 28, 2015 4495 Empire City Troopers The longest urban snowboard course in Canada—right in the heart of Montreal! December 5, from noon until 10 pm, 35 of the best snowboarders in North America will hit the longest urban snowboard course in Canada as part of the Empire City Troopers competition. In 2014, no less than 12,500 spectators took over rue Saint-Denis (between Sherbrooke and Ontario) to cheer on the snowboarders who were attempting to be the best on the original slope-style course, and take home the $15,000 prize. The public is invited to be part of it all—absolutely free—including many activities going on in Montreal’s Quartier Latin, which for the duration, will take on the look of a real Alpine village! “Transporting that mountain spirit to the city really has a way of democratizing snowboarding. That makes Empire City Troopers much more than a competition, it’s a unique opportunity to discover and rediscover a certain type of discipline, says Micah Desforges, President of Tribu Expérientiel, the event’s producer. “Quebec is an international platform for street snowboarding, so it’s an important venue for snowboarders from here and elsewhere; to come to Montreal and do their best. This is especially significant since the event takes place in an authentic and friendly atmosphere that’s great for the athletes and the public at large. It’s a Super Happening!” In total, some 60 competitors—including amateurs as well as the sport’s elite, show their stuff on a 25 foot high slope that’s also 250 feet long and follows the natural curve of rue Saint-Denis. The course includes 3 obstacles of sufficient magnitude and style to really impress the judges. For the occasion, some 7,000 ft3 of snow will be delivered to the event site. The public will find themselves in a festive, fun universe.
