Trio Élégiaque performs in Montreal for the first time – Febraury 5, 2025 LiveEvents January 26, 2025 254 Bourgie Hall presents Trio Élégiaque The Trio Élégiaque stands as one of France’s most prominent ensembles and is renowned for its remarkable discography. For its first concert in Montreal, the ensemble will perform Shostakovich’s poignant Trio No. 2, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death. Artists Hélène Collerette, violin Born in Chicoutmi, Canada, Hélène Collerette discovered music thanks to a musician mother and a music-loving father. A student of Pierre Amoyal, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Vladimir Landsman and Langis Breton, she won several international prizes in France (Bordeaux competition), England (London quartet competition), Italy (Florence competition), Switzerland (Sion, Tibor Varga) and Canada. As a soloist, Hélène Collerette performs with prestigious orchestras including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Koopman, Jarvi, Jordan, Chung, Janowski, Rophé and Roth, tackling a wide repertoire ranging from concertos by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, through Bartok, Lutoslawski, Thoresen, as well as the creation of the double concerto by Hersant (Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Pascal Rophé) which has just been released by Hortus. Her desire to discover new repertoires led her to join the Phileas ensemble and the Trio à cordes de Paris in 2015 and more recently the famous Trio Élégiaque. With these ensembles, she frequently performs in various cities and festivals. Paris of course but also Berlin, Istanbul, etc. Virginie Constant, cello Virginie Constant received first prizes in cello and chamber music in the classes of Michel Strauss and Christian Ivaldi at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. At the same time, she won the highest distinctions during international competitions as a soloist and chamber musician: Special Prize at the Européen des Musiques d’Ensembles à Paris (FNAPEC), First Grand Prize at the concours de musique française de Guérande with pianist Cédric Tiberghien, winner of the Maria Canals cello competition in 1998 and the Vittorio Gui chamber music competition in Florence, Best Prize performance of contemporary work at the 4th Weimar Chamber Music Competition. She has performed in various Parisian institutions (Radio-France, Cité de la Musique, Opéra-Comique), and in numerous places and festivals, both in France and abroad (Belgium, Luxembourg, Brazil, Italy, England, Slovenia, Denmark, etc.). Currently artistic advisor to the Pornic Festival, Virginie Constant runs masterclasses at the Pôle Supérieur Bretagne Loire-Atlantique (Pont supérieur). She teaches cello at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés as well as at the Conservatoire de Vincennes. Nicolas Stavy, piano “Nicolas Stavy imposes a tone that is eminently personal, subjective, dense and intimidating: an interpretation of the extreme” – Concertonet He performs on prestigious international stages such as Salle Pleyel, Philharmonie de Paris, Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, Festival piano aux Jacobins, Festivals Chopin à Nohant et à Bagatelle, Piano(s) Festival à Lille, Festival Berlioz, Klavier Ruhr Festival, Casals Hall in Tokyo, Athenaeum de Bucarest, Théâtre Mariinsky de Saint-Pétersbourg, Victoria Hall de Genève, Hong-Kong Academy for Performing Arts, 92nd Street Y of New York… And as soloist with major ensembles such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Utah Symphony Orchestra in Salt Lake City, the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine… He was a disciple of Dominique Merlet for almost 15 years. Subsequent encounters with György Sebök and Alfred Brendel had a profound effect on him. Prizes at the International Chopin Competitions in Warsaw, Geneva (2nd Prize) and Bachauer in the USA opened doors to the international musical world.
