Heroic Beethoven

The first part of the Orchestre Métropolitain’s Beethoven Marathon

The uncontested master of the symphony, Beethoven left his mark on music in a way few composers have. With four concerts in three days, Yannick Nézet-Séguin will deliver his vision of these bold classics that continue to dazzle audiences 250 years later. It’s sure to be a marathon to remember!

Each program will feature two or three Beethoven symphonies, rounded out by the premiere of a piece written by a winner of the Beethoven Heritage competition, an initiative spearheaded by the OM and its artistic director. These young composers bring a modern perspective to Beethoven’s influence on today’s world and to his work’s social and political themes.

With Beethoven’s trademark symphonic style, the bright and elegant Symphony No. 2 sets the stage for the monumental Symphony No. 3, “Eroica.” In the span of two symphonies, Beethoven takes the audience from a Classical style akin to Mozart and Haydn to a complete break with the traditional symphonic form. It’s a perfect introduction to the composer’s genius.
