Discover the historical highlights and top sights of Montreal’s old town with this self-guided walking tour, including Place Jacques-Cartier, Marché Bonsecours, City Hall and the many splendid buildings of Place d’Armes. Starting at Notre-Dame Basilica in Place d’Armes, this audio tour heads towards Rue Saint-Paul, and weaves along its charming side streets to Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Chapel. On the way back, you’ll see Château Ramezay, built in the 18th century as the residence of the governor of Montreal, and the Champ-de-Mars, a beautiful green space where you can still observe the city’s former fortifications. Accompanied by our easy-to-use audio guide with an interactive map and many historic photos, you’ll explore the most iconic spots of Vieux-Montreal.

It’s a neighbourhood, where it’s simply fun to stroll around, people watch and soak in the laid back atmosphere. The Mile End walking tour starts at Parc Lahaie, the birthplace of today’s Mile End, and will guide you through some of the neighbourhood’s most iconic streets, such as Saint-Laurent boulevard and St-Viateur street. Along the way, you’ll experience lively shopping areas, beautiful tree-lined residential streets, and some of the Mile End’s architectural landmarks. You’ll also learn about the neighbourhood’s fascinating history and the captivating stories of immigrants, who have contributed to the Mile End’s multicultural mosaic. Plus, you’ll discover some of Montreal’s quintessential foods (including Fairmoung and St-Viateur Bagel). At the end of the tour, you’ll find yourself not far from where you started but with a newfound sense of creative energy and inspiration.

Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighbourhood, bordering the Lachine Canal, is one of the city’s most interesting to explore on foot. On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll discover the stories behind many of the historic buildings of this former working class neighbourhood, including one of Montreal’s landmarks – the Atwater Market. We’ve selected a path that explores many of Saint-Henri’s charming public parks, several of the neighbourhood’s vibrant street-art murals, and takes you along Saint-Henri’s main commercial street, rue Notre Dame. The path returns along the Lachine Canal, a popular destination used by Montrealers for biking, walking and kayaking on the weekends.

Starting point: In front of the former post office at 538 Place Saint-Henri.
