Orchestre de l’Agora presents

Gala de la Terre

Winner of the “Musical Event of the Year 2022” Opus Award, Orchestre de l’Agora is back for its next edition of Gala de la Terre. This musical event raises awareness about climate change and supports the important projects of environmental organizations that have an impact here in Quebec. The supported organizations for the upcoming edition are the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM), the World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF-Canada), and the Sierra Club Canada Foundation. For this occasion, Agora brings together musicians from various Quebec orchestral institutions to represent the province’s musical ecosystem, as environmental protection is a true societal issue that spares no one.

Film and documentary composer Claudie Bertounesque will create a work for orchestra and electro-acoustic elements, using, among other things, beluga whale calls collected by GREMM. This creation will literally immerse you in the sonic universe of the St. Lawrence River! Orchestre de l’Agora is also proud to welcome the Innu soprano and Radio-Canada Revelation 2023-2024, Elisabeth St-Gelais, performing Wagner’s magnificent Wesendonck Lieder.

As the centerpiece, the Orchestra will present Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony. A true journey into the Alps, the Alpine Symphony is also a metaphor for the cycle of life. It is a moving and larger-than-life work that reminds us of the finiteness of our existence and the fragility of our planet.

The concert will be bringing together 100 musicians and 75 choristers from Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, all under the  direction of Conductor Nicolas Ellis.
