French Art Songs of the Belle Époque – March 15, 2024 LiveEvents March 7, 2024 595 Bourgie Hall presents Maître Fauré: French Art Songs of the Belle Époque This concert of French mélodies centres on Gabriel Fauré, 2024 marking the 100th anniversary of his death, and illustrates the magnitude of his influence on his students. In connection with the lecture Fauré and the Salons of the Belle Époque presented by Sylvain Caron the same day at 5:30pm (presented in French). Artists Cyrille Dubois, tenor Cyrille Dubois first sang in Caen’s Choir, obtained a degree in Science and studied at the Paris Conservatoire, before joining the Paris Opera’s opera workshop, the Atelier Lyrique in 2010. In 2015, Cyrille Dubois was nominated Best New Opera Artist at the Victoires de la Musique and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2022. His wide repertoire ranges from Baroque (Hippolyte, in Hippolyte et Aricie) to contemporary music (L’Autre in Point d’orgue), Italian Bel Canto (Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola), Mozart (Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Tamino in The Magic Flute) and French Opera-comique. He can be heard in many leading European staged, such as Teatro alla Scala, Milan (Nathanael in The Hoffmann Tales), La Monnaie in Brussels (Azor in La Dispute), Staatsoper Wien (Ernesto in Don Pasquale), Zurich Opera (Fenton in Falstaff), Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Opéra Comique (title role in Fortunio). He has won many international competitions with Tristan Raës, and together they perform in St-Petersburg, Venice, London, Moscow, and have recorded works by Liszt, the sisters Boulangers, and the complete songs of Fauré. Cyrille Dubois is also a concert singer and teaches masterclasses regularly. In the 2023/24 season, he sings Tamino at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Idamante (Idomeneo) at Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and Renaud (Armide) at Opéra Comique. His discography includes about forty recordings, including the title role in Pygmalion, Iopas in The Trojans, Acanthe in Acante et Cephise, Britten’s Canticles and Gervais’s Grands Motets. At 13 he garnered a First Prize at the Schola Cantorum in the class of Jean Jacques Painchaud, and the same year received Second Prize in the Sarrebourg competition. He then entered the Conservatory of Lille, where he obtained a Gold Medal 1996, having followed the postgraduate curriculum there. In 1999, Tristan Raës was accepted unanimously at the Paris Conservatory (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique), where he received the prix in piano and the diploma of advanced studies in 2002, in the class of Bruno Rigutto. After a Second Prize and a special prize for contemporary music in the Moravia competition (Czech Republic) he enrolled in the advanced chamber music curriculum in the classes of Marie-Francoise Bucquet and Daria Hovora. Concurrently he worked on solo repertory with Nicholas Angelich and Pascal Devoyon, as well as Pierre Boulez on the occasion of the performance of one of his works. He recorded in 2004 a CD of the complete music for two pianons by Francis Poulenc, which received warm critical acclaim. He subsequently entered the instrumental accompaniment class of Jean Koerner, then the vocal accompaniment class of Anne Le Bozec, wherein he obtained the prix by unanimous decision in 2007 and 2009. A few months later he obtained the First Prize in piano at the Nadia and Lili Boulanger international Voice-Piano Competition in Paris. In 2013, he was the winner of the international chamber music competition in Lyon, where he was awarded the First Prize, the Special Prize of the Bayer Foundation and the Audience Prize in duo with Cyrille Dubois, tenor. He performs in recital, chamber music and with orchestra in numerous festivals, such as the tels le Pablo Casals Festival, Pianofolies, “Clé de soleil,” the Saison Musicale des Invalides, Ars terra, “Jeunes Talents”… For several years he has occupied the post of Specialized Assistant in Artistic Instruction at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional of Paris.
