Montreal Comiccon: An Epic Pop Culture Celebration

The 13th edition of MONTREAL COMICCON, one of Canada’s largest gatherings of pop culture fans, will take place July 14 to 16, 2023 at Palais de congrès. Tens of thousands of lovers of comics, sci-fi, anime, manga, horror, video games, toys and collectibles will assemble over three days to enjoy cosplay, hunting for treasures, meeting their heroes, and excessive amounts of fun.

As ever, Montreal Comiccon will feature a diverse range of programming, including celebrities on stage, panels, workshops, autographs, photo ops, and board game tournaments.

ComicconNew programming elements will have an emphasis on musical expressions inspired by popular culture. L’Orchestre d’animé de Montréal (OAM), an 18-musician ensemble with a passion for Japanese pop culture, will perform for the first time at Comiccon on Friday, July 14, with a setlist that is sure to dazzle, including classic pieces from Demon Slayer, Naruto, Sailor Moon, My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece and many more. On Sunday afternoon, discover Kira Kira START’s Idol Showcase, a spectacular performance event that features groups lip-syncing and dancing to songs from established “idols” from Korea, Japan, Thailand, China and more! Montreal Comiccon’s closing event Sunday evening is sure to raise the roof of the Montreal Casino with a special performance by alternative and geeky hip-hop artists, More or Les and Wordburglar.

The Tabletop Gaming Zone will be presented by ASMODEE CANADA for the first time. Asmodee Canada is the Canadian subsidiary of Asmodee, the world leader in board games and currently the biggest distributor in the country. Once again, the Tabletop Gaming Zone will be expertly operated by the G.A.M.E. Montreal organization for attendees looking to get their tabletop fix. LOTO-QUÉBEC is returning to Comiccon, bringing over 20 video game developers to their Indie Game Zone. You can find them both near the main entrance of the second floor of Palais des congrès, in addition to the photo ops area, artist alley and hundreds of retailers offering everything from exceptional T-shirts, vintage comics, unique collectibles, and exclusive new releases. For those looking to be entertained, the best place to be is the fifth floor. Be it to see celebrities take to the stage, answering fan questions, to listen to a panel of game developers talk about their creative process, or gawk at masterful costume makers showcasing sensational outfits on The Masquerade stage in front of a panel of judges.

NEW THIS YEAR: Comiccon will expand to the seventh floor, where you will find the celebrity guests signing autographs in the new Autograph Area.

This year’s guests of honour include the inimitable CHRISTINA RICCI (The Addams Family, Wednesday, Yellowjackets). She will be joined by guest STEPHEN AMELL (Arrow, Heels), renown voice actor JOHN DIMAGGIO (Futurama, Adventure Time); wrestling legend and gold medalist, KURT ANGLE; and Canadian actor PAUL SUN-HYUNG LEE (The Mandalorian, Kim’s Convenience). JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER will appear on Saturday and Sunday for autographs, photo ops and an onstage appearance. The popular actor is best known for his roles in Stranger Things, Camelot, Will, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow, The Twilight Saga and Mortal Instruments, among other titles. Devotees of the unforgettable show Smallville will be ecstatic to meet its heroic cast: LAURA VANDERVOORT, KRISTIN KREUK, ERICA DURANCE, MICHAEL ROSENBAUM, and TOM WELLING.

Some of the most gifted creators in the comic book universe will join the madness. Fans will be thrilled to greet master artists GREG CAPULLO (Spawn, Batman), ED BRISSON (Predator, Old Man Logan), GEORGES JEANTY (Bishop: The Last X-Man), MICHAEL GOLDEN (co-creator of Rogue, Micronauts), MIKE GRELL (Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters), RAGS MORALES (Identity Crisis, Batman Confidential), ARTHUR SUYDAM (Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead), and many more.
