Feist

Leslie Feist is an 11-time Juno Award-winning solo artist and founding member of Broken Social Scene. Born in Nova Scotia but mostly raised in Calgary, she first explored her idiosyncratic musicality by playing in a local punk band as a teen and made her recording debut with the 1999 independent release Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down). Following the breakout success of her sophomore album, Let It Die, she went on to achieve international acclaim with 2007’s Gold-certified The Reminder, which won the 2007 Shortlist Music Prize and earned four GRAMMY® Award nominations. The Reminder delivered one of the most indelible songs of the 2000s – “1234,” a Billboard Hot 100-charting hit. 2011’s Metals was hailed as the album of the year by The New York Times’ Jon Pareles and won the 2012 Polaris Music Prize. In 2017, Feist released the critically acclaimed Pleasure, accompanied by the storytelling podcast series “Pleasure Studies,” which was named “Podcast of the Year” by Apple Podcasts.

Multitudes – Feist’s sixth full-length album and first release since 2017’s critically acclaimed Pleasure. The new songs were largely written during an intensely communal 2021-2022 tour of the same name, which was hailed as a “work of genius” by the Toronto Star. After the tour, Feist retreated to Northern California’s Redwood Forest to record the album.

Multitudes took shape soon after the birth of Feist’s daughter and the sudden death of her father. Amid meditations on mortality, connection and the frenetic state of the human condition, the album ultimately radiates an ineffable sense of hope.
