Festival Bach Montreal presents

Pianist Filippo Gorini

The project surrounding The Art of Fugue performed by Filippo Gorini is the result of many years of reflection and preparation for this pianist, who is a regular at the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, and the Munich Herkulessaal. Without even mentioning his virtuosity, which is discreetly obvious, his interpretations are astonishingly mature and profound.

At only 27 years of age, Filippo Gorini’s strong artistic personality has led him to receive the “Premio Abbiati” as best soloist of the year 2022, the most prestigious musical recognition in Italy, as well as the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award 2020 and First Prize at the Telekom-Beethoven Competition 2015.

In these years he has performed extensively on prestigious stages such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, London Wigmore Hall, Società del Quartetto di Milano, Parco della Musica in Rome, Louis Vuitton Foundation Paris, Zurich Tonhalle, Van Cliburn Foundation, Vancouver Recital Society. In 2022 he will make his debuts at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and LAC Lugano, as well as the San Carlo Theatre in Naples.

Filippo’s albums featuring Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, Hammerklavier and op. 111 sonatas, released on Alpha Classics, have garnered critical acclaim, including a Diapason d’Or Award and 5-star reviews on The Guardian, BBC Music Magazine, Le Monde, and more. His recent recording of The Art of Fugue, by Bach, also on Alpha Classics, has matched this acclaim and was nominated one of the best albums of 2021 by Le Monde.

He has performed and recorded with orchestras such as the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchester, the Verdi Orchestra in Milan, the Flanders Symphony Orchestra,  and many more.  Besides his extensive solo and chamber music repertoire, Filippo follows actively the world of contemporary composition, and has played works by composers such as Stockhausen, Kurtág, Lachenmann, Gervasoni, as well as premiering new works. His ongoing multidisciplinary project “The Art of Fugue Explored” has shown his vision and creativity to go further than just his performing abilities.
