Helen Simard’s PAPILLON

MainLine Theatre’s Executive and Artistic Director Amy Blackmore is excited to launch its 2022-2023 season with the return of Montreal’s much loved Bouge d’ici. Taking the form of a series of dance performances, activities and professional development opportunities for artists, expect to see announcements trickle out throughout the season. World-renowned choreographer Helen Simard and her company We All Fall Down Interdisciplinary Creations (WAFD) are delighted to kick off MainLine’s year-long art party with the Montreal premiere of their latest creation PAPILLON, presented by Bouge d’ici.

“The spirit of the Fringe lives year round at MainLine,“ shares Amy Blackmore, Executive and Artistic Director. “Serving the community for over 15 years, MainLine is the hub of indie arts on the Main. Audiences can expect affordable tickets, intimate theatres and a jam-packed lineup including Montreal’s finest up-and-coming talent.”

PapillonDrawing on the aesthetics of street and contemporary dance, PAPILLON juxtaposes three solos and a live experimental soundtrack in a complex trio that explores the delicate balance between order and disorder. For 50 minutes, three dancers weave in and out of sync through a complex choreographic partition, supported by a live, hypnotic musical soundtrack that blends the sounds and rhythms of jazz, hip-hop and drum’n’bass. Inspired by chaos theory and mathematical equations, PAPILLON is a raw, engulfing reflection on loneliness and togetherness, singularity and similarity, metamorphosis and above all, the importance of human connection.
