The Pop symphonic series returns for an eighth season with the Gala disco symphonique. It presents concerts of popular music in a symphonic version with star singers from the popular or classical scene resulting in a happy mix of genres and musical styles that pleases every audience.

The Gala disco symphonique is a brand new symphonic show featuring the disco group Boogie Wonder Band and the La Sinfonia de Lanaudière orchestra, which will be conducted by Maestro Stéphane Laforest. More than 40 musicians and 8 soloists will be on stage to interpret the great hits of the disco era in symphonic style. This gala is a surprising concept combining a quality pop group and a renowned symphony orchestra. Come together for a festive concert of uplifting music.

Stéphane Laforest has one of the most enviable reputations as a conductor in Canada. He is currently artistic director and conductor of the Orchester symphonique de Sherbrooke (since 1998) and artistic director and conductor of the Sinfonia de Lanaudière, an orchestra he founded in 1994.

Stéphane Laforest held the position of first assistant conductor with Kent Nagano and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (2009 – 2011). He was also artistic director and conductor of the New Brunswick Symphony (2005 – 2009), resident assistant conductor and conductor in residence of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec (1999 – 2005), artistic director and conductor of orchestra of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (1995 – 1998), principal guest conductor of Orchestra London Canada (2000 – 2005) and resident conductor of the Orchester des jeunes du Québec (1986). From September 2012 to May 2015, Maestro Laforest was the regular conductor of the Hydro-Québec series at the Quebec Symphony Orchestra.

Laforest studied conducting with the following great masters; Kent Nagano, Yoav Talmi, Otto Wener Müeller Charles Bruck, Michel Tabachnik, Simon Streatfield, Alfredo Sillipigni, Gustav Meier and Raffi Armenian.

A very versatile conductor, Stéphane Laforest has conducted more than 450 ”symphonic pop” concerts across Canada.
