Fauré & Duruflé: Requiem

Ensemble Vocal Arts-Québec and organist Jonathan Oldengarm evoke the divine afterworld with powerful performances of the Fauré & Duruflé Requiems. Fauré’s Requiem offers a radiant vision of heaven, comforting audiences far beyond the composer’s original Parisian congregation. Duruflé’s unique work is equally recognized as a masterpiece, being performed regularly since the composer’s death. Experience these two Requiems in all their glory, in a beautiful rendition led by guest conductor Francis Choinière!

Jonathan Oldengarm, organist

Montreal-based organist Jonathan Oldengarm is active as a recitalist, teacher, and church musician. His organ and harpsichord repertoire includes works from the earliest sources of keyboard music to the 21st-century avant-garde. He is also a versatile collaborative artist; see Vitae for details.

Dr. Oldengarm holds degrees in organ and harpsichord from Wilfrid Laurier and McGill Universities, and also studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, Germany. He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, and sits on its professional certification committee. He is also a member of the Organs Committee of the Quebec Religious Heritage Commission (Patrimoine réligieux). Since 2008 he has been Director of Music at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, Montreal, where the music programme includes a forty-voice semi-professional choir, a summer organ recital series, and several annual choir-orchestral oratorio presentations. Additionally, he is Instructor of Organ, and teaches keyboard skills, liturgical organ playing, accompaniment and improvisation at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University.
