Festival du Monde Arabe presents

La diva du désert

Algerian-born opera singer Fairouz Oudjida, bringing a distinctive edge to the Quebec musical landscape, has shone over the course of her career as she blends her solemn soprano voice with the eternal repertory of Arabic song, providing an unchallenged and fondly recognized presence. With this new show, featuring the theme of celebration, the “Desert Diva” invites you with emotion on a virtuoso journey to the great classics of Oriental music and of Berber, North African and Andalusian song.

You will hear a vibrant tribute to her Algerian roots, with revivals of traditional and popular pieces. Later, praise is sung to the glory of cities such as Beirut… Having performed in Italian theatres, where she developed her voice with its haunting clarity, Fairouz Oudjida disarmingly embodies the meeting of East and West as she gracefully blends the vocal range of opera with the passionate sounds of Arabic music.

Conducted by the pianist Dominic Boulianne and accompanied by Dominic Painchaud on cello, Jean-Philippe Reny on oud and Kattam Laraki-Côté on percussions, this show promises a fabulous journey to lands of melodies that are hard to forget!
