Charles Brécard / Geneviève Gagné – Transformative Choreography LiveEvents September 8, 2021 1267 Festival Quartiers Danses presents Charles Brécard / Geneviève Gagné Cinquième Salle – September 13, 2021 Ombre verte is a stage-based choreographic work inspired by the short film of the same name, which was created for the 18th edition of the FQD. The trajectories of the six performers intersect to highlight the human connections they share. These interactions create a superimposition of real life and imagination, drawing out the subconscious elements of this universal connection: “Together. We exist. Together. Imperfect, infinite, intertwined. Whole. Linked. Interwoven. Connected.” As a distortion of the term “chaînons manquants” (missing links) from Darwin’s theory of evolution, the title of this piece represents the entity that allowed us to transition from ape to human. The word “Manqués” (missed) represents the emaciation of the bodies featured in the piece, as though the performers were emerging from an experiment gone wrong. Nevertheless, they continue to prove their worth, grit and determination while demonstrating their individuality and developing greater social cohesion. This piece was commissioned by the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal and features the first professional experience of these five emerging artists.
