Phenomenal Women to be honoured at the 4th edition of the Salon International de la Femme Noire!

It is with enthusiasm that Audace au Féminin presents the fourth edition of the Salon International de la Femme Noire (SIFN). It will take place on May 28, 29 and 30, 2021, on its official Facebook page: Audace au Féminin – Salon International de la Femme Noire. Through its ambition to instill a dose of self-esteem and “empowerment” in all women, the theme “Phenomenal Woman” will be at the forefront of the event.

In a constant effort of innovation and excellence, the SIFN encourages black socio-economic actresses to enter the digital hub by diversifying their forces of action and development. A series of panel discussions will provide concrete solutions to economic recovery and the future of conscious entrepreneurship with Phenomenal Women: President of the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montreal Deborah Cherenfant, Vickie Joseph, President of honour of SIFN; Christelle François, President of the Black Chamber of Commerce of Canada. In addition, SIFN will meet with four women entrepreneurs selected for Femmessor’s “the power of impact” campaign, created to highlight women entrepreneurs who want to change the world: Madioula Kébé-Kamara, Aurore Robert-Mavounia, Stéphanie Jecrois and Tatiana Zinga Botao. Entrepreneurs chosen for their innovative products and services will present their companies using short videos during the three days.

Citizens are challenging policymakers from Canada and abroad to bring a positive and hopeful change. The concept of “intersectional ecology” will be developed by Chúk Odenigbo and Lourderie Jean. To support The Salon International de la Femme Noire in its movement to encourage the involvement of Black Women in civic life and supported by the partnership between the City of Montreal and the Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI) through its Community Support Program (CSP), Maryse Alcindor, Commissioner at the Office de consultation publique de Montréal and first black woman deputy minister in Quebec public administration will take part in the conversation to note the importance of racialized women in the next municipal elections and to decipher the intergenerational visions of social commitment. It is undeniable that we cannot address activism without talking about racism and its psychological burden on members of black communities. After the ”Black Lives Matter movement, “Stop Asian Hate” and “Justice for Joyce Echecuan” appeared. It was essential to hear speakers from these different communities for the panel  “Racism has no colour.”

In recent days, we have witnessed an upsurge in the number of feminicides. The confinement has exacerbated domestic violence and psychological distress (suicide, mental health), taboo subjects in black communities that will be addressed with the support of testimonies from people who have lived through these situations, accompanied by experts. On the eve of Bill 101, Tiffany Callender will lead the discussion “In French, please!” with Yolande James, Kemba Mitchell, who experience triple discrimination for being women, black and English-speakers in a French-speaking province.

Portraits of Phenomenal Women who are changing the world will punctuate The SIFN. Women such as the first black conductor, Paris-based Afro-Venezuelan Glass Marcano; Dominique Anglade, leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec, who will speak about her book; Tania Tanic, VP at Investissement Québec; Alexandra Bastiany, first black woman interventional cardiologist in Canada; Lawyer Thamara Thermitus, and Isabelle Adjahi, VP of Investor Relations and Sustainable Development at Lion Électrique.

An unprecedented meeting between the afrofeminist activist Leila Ahouman and the French activist Assa Traore, considered an icon of modern times (Time magazine) for her fight for the truth about the death of her brother Adama Traore, and her battle for the equality of men and women, will close this 4th edition of the Salon International de la Femme Noire.

During these three days, Phenomenal Women and Phenomenal Men will bring their expertise and testimonies in a virtual format to meet the needs of Women. The 4th edition of SIFN will be all about resilience, solidarity, inspiration and a commitment to the vision of inclusivity and change!

The Salon International de la Femme Noire is more than an event; it is an inclusive movement.
