Dancing Beethoven – February 19-23, 2020 Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier LiveEvents February 11, 2020 1550 Les Grands Ballets presents Dancing Beethoven Two immense works by the great composer begin the year 2020, which will be marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven, a monumental figure in classical music. American Garrett Smith will open the evening with the remarkable Symphony No 5, one of the world’s most important and recognized symphonies. Drawing inspiration from the differences and singularity of each of us, Smith creates a piece celebrating the power that can result from acceptance of our individuality and the excitement stemming from the discovery of our uniqueness – an ode to the freedom regained when our masks come off. Completing this double-bill is a bequest from the late Uwe Scholz. The dancers, in symbiosis with the majestic music of Beethoven’s Symphony No 7, will present a work that produces, with its athletic achievements and its geometry danced in unison, a leitmotif effect. Performed in opening of the 2017 season, the gifted German choreographer’s work instantly won over the hearts of Montrealers.
