RINALDO ALESSANDRINI, HARPSICHORD

In the 17th century, the rise of instrumental music emancipated from vocal models caused an irrepressible outpouring of ornamentation. The stylus phantasticus of which Rinaldo Alessandrini is a recognized exponent is embodied here in the sheer extravagance of works conceived as notated improvisations.

Rinaldo Alessandrini is a virtuoso on Baroque keyboards, including harpsichord, fortepiano, and organ. He is founder and conductor of the Italian early music ensemble Concerto Italiano, performing music of Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Couperin, Bach, and others. He is considered a foremost interpreter of early Italian opera.
