A WORLDWIDE MUSIC JOURNEY

Experience the cultures of Africa, the Caribean and Latin America

From July 9 to the 21 2019, the 33rd edition of Festival International Nuits d’Afrique invites us on a global musical journey at the most festive and authentic major event of Montreal.

For 13 days, more than 700 artists from 30 countries and hundreds of thousands of festival-goers will gather for the pleasure of being together and enjoying a bountiful musical experience, through the cultures of Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. Whether you’re out looking for authenticity in African musical styles inspired by Mandinka tradition, seeking thrills with the psychedelic beats of an ultra-modern Latin America, ready to be swept away by desert blues, aiming to get in tune with the new African urban scene or preparing to get caught up in North African pop or rollicking Caribbean dances, the 33rd annual Festival International Nuits d’Afrique offers you an abundance of musical treasures.

This distinctive, world-renowned festival is Montreal’s most unifying and inclusive event, with an eclectic musical selection aimed at audiences of all ages. The program encompasses 135 concerts and activities, including 7 concert series presented in 6 indoor venues from July 9 to 21 and on the outdoor site, located on the Parterre of the Quartier des spectacles, from July 16 to 21. This Nuits d’Afrique’s village comes alive with its many concerts and activities for the whole family, the dance and musical instrument workshops, the children’s place, the legendary Timbuktu market and exotic food and drinks to savor. Bringing their special aura to the entire event, two legends of world music will mark the Festival’s opening and closing. The one and only Salif Keita, celebrating both his own 70th birthday and the half-century mark in his career, will be kicking things off with the Festival’s official start on July 11 at the MTELUS. At the other end of the journey and the musical spectrum, at the Festival’s closing, it will be a delight to see the mythical Tabou Combo light-up the crowd, at the outdoor TD – RADIO-CANADA Stage, July 21 at 9:30 pm.
