La Bohème is an opera in four acts, based on Scènes de la vie de bohème by Henri Murger. The opera tells the story of a love affair between a poor poet and an equally poor seamstress in 19th century Paris. The world premiere was in Turin on 1 February 1896 at the Teatro Regio, conducted by the 28-year-old Arturo Toscanini.
