EDWARD HIGGINBOTTOM conducts MARIE, LES SAINTES ET LE ROI

Seductive musical charm was inextricably bound up with religious piety during the Grand Siècle. Movements of the Missa Assumpta est Maria by Marc-Antoine Charpentier alternate with a few motets by Couperin, including those to St. Cecilia and St. Suzanne. Reconstituted in perfect taste by British conductor Edward Higginbottom, three of these motets will be heard for the first time on this side of the Atlantic.
