The Segal Centre for Performing Arts presents

A Century Songbook

A Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre Production

An original show with songs and stories from the past
100 years of Jewish life in Montreal!

This uplifting show, celebrating 100 years of Jewish life in Montreal, will be on the Segal Centre mainstage for 5 performances only, from November 26 to November 29, 2017.

A Musical Journey Dedicated to a Century of Jewish History

In honour of the centennial anniversary of Federation CJA, a cast of 30 and a 6-piece band bring you this musical retrospective concert, celebrating the past hundred years of the Montreal Jewish community’s achievements and challenges through song, dance, and personal stories. Singers, actors and dancers take us through daily life and historic landmarks: the early immigration to Montreal, the roaring 20s, the union movement, Baron Byng High, Fletcher’s Field, creation of the State of Israel, Sephardic immigration, Expo 67, March of the Living, the Soviet Jewry movement, community advocacy, and more. Iconic songs, dance, personal stories and projections are woven together to create a rich tapestry of the shared experiences of Montreal Jews through the decades.

100 Years of Music in 6 languages

With a repertoire that includes everything from folk music to rock, from anthems to show tunes, audiences can look forward to hearing well-loved and contemporary favourites from each era. While the majority of the show is in English, songs are also in French, Yiddish, Hebrew—and even Russian and Amharic—showcasing the diverse origins of the city’s Jewish community and reflecting the community’s issues and contributions from 1917 to 2017.
