HARRY ROSEN – As a McGill University active Emeritus Professor of Dentistry, Dr. Rosen is first and foremost a teacher and retired practitioner of Prosthodontics (restorative dentistry). For over 60 years Rosen has taught at the Montreal General Hospital in the McGill Multidisciplinary Residency program. He initiated the first Canadian graduate Program in Prosthodontics in 1970. Rosen’s passion for earth art and stone sculpting is almost equal to his passion for restorative dentistry. Rosen has been moving, splitting and fitting rocks and boulders for almost 5 decades. That consuming avocation has enabled him to explore the many possibilities of blending science and art as well as function and aesthetics. Since 2008 Rosen has created and donated 15 sculptural outdoor installations dotting the Cityscape of Montreal and Toronto. Phoenicia has published 22 books of poetry, creative non-fiction, and photography, and four music CDs. Its editorial focus is on writing and images that illuminate culture, diversity, and the human spirit. Phoenicia uses the internet and digital technology to collaborate with authors and artists located all over the world, designing and producing high-quality books that are usually printed on demand, and marketing them using a balance of the internet, e-mail newsletters, and social media. As an author, Elizabeth’s essays have appeared in venues such as The Witness, Tikkun, Documentum, and the Montreal Gazette, and she is the author of the 2006 biography, Going to Heaven: The Life and Election of Bishop Gene Robinson (Soft Skull Press, Brooklyn). She was a founder and co-managing editor of the e-zine qarrtsiluni, and her blog, The Cassandra Pages, has considered questions of culture, arts&letters, nature, and spirit since 2003. As a artist, Elizabeth draws and paints in various media, and is a relief printmaker. She designs most of the Phoenicia book covers and has illustrated several books. Her current projects include a manuscript about Iceland interwoven with large-format charcoal drawings, and a memoir of her Syrian father-in-law. Founded in 1894 and incorporated in 1968, the Women’s Art Society of Montreal has played an important role in fostering awareness and understanding of the arts among the general public of the city. As one of the earliest organizations for women artists, the Women’s Art Society of Montreal helped pave the way for the integration of women into the art world. Nowadays, the Women’s Art Society is more social and educational than professional in nature since various opportunities and avenues of support are open to female artists.
