Lyric Theatre Singers

The Lyric Theatre Singers return to Concordia University’s DB Clarke Theatre June 15, 16 and 17 with four presentations of HELLO BROADWAY. This new original musical theatre revue, created by directors and longtime Lyric collaborators, Bob Bachelor and Cathy Burns, features forty performers and five musicians serving up a lively, eclectic assortment of Broadway’s most memorable moments, past and present.

A very strong cast of performers allowed the directors to set the bar even higher this year with music that showcases the Singers’ strengths both as an ensemble and as soloists. “This year Lyric experienced one of its most exciting auditions, gaining ten new female voices, nine of them in their 20s or 30s. We took full advantage of the marked versatility of the group to program a unique musical revue with a surprise around every corner!” confided Bachelor. “I’m happy to see musical theatre enjoying a vibrant resurgence in Montreal”, said Burns who added, “The material we’ve selected, coupled with the dynamic staging and choreography, is great fun and will keep audiences smiling and tapping their toes.”

HELLO BROADWAY has something for everyone including an hilarious mini-musical presentation of Once Upon A Mattress, (complete with story arc, props, and dialogue), an homage to composer extraordinaire Jule Styne (Funny Girl, Gypsy, Bells Are Ringing) and highlights from A Chorus Line, Chicago, Grease, Follies, The Music Man as well as more recent shows such as Steel Pier, Lion King, Avenue Q, the 2016 Tony Award-winning blockbuster, Hamilton, and much more.

The creative team of Bachelor and Burns is complemented by guest choreographer, Jonathan Patterson (The Producers, Forever Plaid, Guys and Dolls, Segal Centre; Last Night at the Gayety, Centaur). The remaining Lyric design team is comprised of lighting designer Mark Bye, sound designer Rob Denton and costume coordinator Karen Pearce. The rehearsal and show pianist is Benjamin Kwong; joined on stage by Jennifer Bell on reeds, Caleb Smith playing bass, and Guillaume Pilote keeping tempo on the drums. Helming the revue as stage manager is Adrian Smith.
