Chagall, the Colour of Sounds – Mikhaïl Rudy

Recital with animation film projections

Chagall’s work on the ceiling of the Paris Opera is set to music: Gluck, Mozart, Wagner, Debussy and Ravel, each one depicted by Chagall in that emblematic work, are at the heart of this multimedia and truly kaleidoscopic performance where music and painting meet in colourful dialogue. Mikhaïl Rudy, a French pianist of Uzbekistani origin who was close to Chagall in his last years, renders a vibrant tribute to the great artist.

The recital is accompanied by the projection of two animation films by Mikhaïl Rudy: the first is based on unpublished sketches prepared by Chagall for his work on the Paris Opera ceiling, while the second is inspired by stage directions and preliminary aquarelles by Wassily Kandinsky for his total art show on the music of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which took place at the Bauhaus in 1928.
