He performs this musical monument in conjunction with two compelling 20th century works, one composed especially for Mr. Marwood by Steven Mackey, the other written by one of Québec’s most prominent composers, Claude Vivier. VAN BEETHOVEN Symphonie no 5 en do mineur, op. 67 Anthony Marwood, conductor and violinist Anthony Marwood performs worldwide as soloist with many notable orchestras, and enjoys regular collaborations with Les Violons du Roy in Canada (he currently holds a three-year position as Principal Artistic Partner), the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra (Artistic Partner in the 2016-17 season), Tapiola Sinfonietta in Finland, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the St Louis Symphony in the USA. His teachers have included Emanuel Hurwitz and David Takeno. He plays on a 1736 violin by Carlo Bergonzi. Steven Mackey, electric guitar Steven Mackey is regarded as one of the leading composers of his generation and has composed for orchestra, chamber ensembles, dance and opera. He has received numerous awards including a Grammy in 2012. His first musical passion was playing the electric guitar in rock bands based in northern California. He blazed a trail in the 1980’s and 90’s by including the electric guitar and vernacular music influence in his concert music and he regularly performs his own work, including two electric guitar concertos and numerous solo and chamber works.
