With all eyes riveted on Rio de Janeiro, come and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Montreal Olympic Games! This key moment in our history truly ignited the sphere of sporting activity, with repercussions that are still being felt today. The OSM and Kent Nagano salute the athletes from Canada and from around the world who left their mark on the 1976 Games as well as to those who continue to inspire us today. This event also pays tribute to the 40-year history of the Olympic Park, where a number of major events have taken place over the years. The program for this evening that honours spectacular human achievements includes excerpts from Gustav Holst‘s stunning masterwork The Planets.

A spectacular symphonic event in celebration of the Olympic spirit, with the participation of some one hundred young Quebec athletes, and archival images of the 1976 Olympic Games provided by Radio-Canada and projected on a giant screen.

Classical SpreeThe 5th edition of the OSM Classical Spree Festival is a grand celebration of classical music, where great international masters meet a new generation of rising talent, performing work by composers of yesterday and today. With a colourful offering of more than 30 concerts over 4 days, the possibilities are nearly endless. Chamber music, recitals, vocal music, world music, youth oriented concerts, and of course symphonic concerts make up the varied programming.  This year the programming breaches the traditional borders of the concert hall, with a whole new series of free outdoor performances, movie and opera screenings.  www.osm.ca/en/festival-viree-classique
