Nelson Freire, piano

J.S. Bach, Toccata in C minor, BWV 911 (11’)
J.S. BachLittle Organ Book (excerpt): Chorale I call to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, BWV 639 (arr. F. Busoni)  (3’)
Brahms, Piano Sonata no. 3 in F minor, op. 5 (27’)

Johannes Brahms was strongly influenced by Johann Sebastian Bach. This recital traces the relationship between these two great German composers and masters of the piano. Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire, described as a “phenomenon” by the French daily Le Figaro, performs Bach’s Toccatain C minor, with its colossal fugue, along with Brahms’ magnificent Piano Sonata in F minor. A stupendous recital!

Classical SpreeThe 5th edition of the OSM Classical Spree Festival is a grand celebration of classical music, where great international masters meet a new generation of rising talent, performing work by composers of yesterday and today. With a colourful offering of more than 30 concerts over 4 days, the possibilities are nearly endless. Chamber music, recitals, vocal music, world music, youth oriented concerts, and of course symphonic concerts make up the varied programming.  This year the programming breaches the traditional borders of the concert hall, with a whole new series of free outdoor performances, movie and opera screenings.  www.osm.ca/en/festival-viree-classique
