The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God – September 22 October 18, Centaur Theatre LiveEvents September 18, 2015 5117 Centaur Theatre presents A Co-Production with The National Arts Centre in association with Black Theatre Workshop The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God Written and Directed by Djanet Sears Rainey, a country doctor whose family can be traced back to the origins of Negro Creek, a 200-year-old Black community in Western Ontario, has turned from her husband, her practice, and her faith, following the death of her daughter. As neighbours rally to uphold their dignity and the town’s rich history, her elderly father mobilizes a group of ethnically proud septuagenarian activists. Rooted in African storytelling traditions, a chorus of ancestors create the mood and settings with sensuous choreography and a soaring soundscape in this touching, humorous and ultimately triumphant journey.
