Montreal Comiccon 2015

Once again, Montreal will become the hub for all that is pop culture. The Montreal Comiccon returns to Palais des congrès, from July 3rd to 5th. The initial line-up, announced in March, includes legends in the realms of science-fiction, fantasy, horror, wrestling and comic books.

Last year’s event, held in September, saw over 51,000 fans attend the three day festivities. The fans beamed and smiled as they posed for pictures, attended celebrity Q&A’s, hunted down elusive collectibles and had fun with friends and family members. Montreal mayor, Denis Coderre was one of the attendees.

This year’s formidable list of guests includes: Karen Gillan (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, British science-fiction series Doctor Who), Sean Gunn (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy), Michael Rooker (Marvel’s Guardians of the GalaxyThe Walking Dead), Scott Wilson and Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Jason Momoa (Conan the BarbarianStargate Atlantis, HBO’s Game of Thrones), Jewel Staite (Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, AMC/Netflix crime thriller The Killing), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing), and John Barrowman (Arrow, Torchwood).

Over the years, Montreal Comiccon has been building its video-game footprint and 2015 will showcase that aspect even further. The exhibition hall, which features artist alley, variety of exhibitors, pop culture vehicles, and retailers, will now feature a new section dedicated to indie video games, with many local luminaries having a presence. A partnership with Multijoueur (multijoueur.ca) will help highlight Montreal as a powerhouse in videogames, with panels and workshops on game creation, tournaments, including the ever-popular Smash Brothers, and demos. Assisting in placing the spotlight on games, Montreal Comiccon is happy to welcome Charles Martinet, who is best known as the voice behind Mario, Luigi and many others in the Nintendo-sphere, as well as Canadian voice actor Mark Meer, who has been part of many BioWare games, including the massively successful Mass Effect series as main character Commander Shepard.

The starting line-up for comic book guests is with luminaries in sequential art with Mike Zeck (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Punisher), the zombie-king Arthur Suydam (Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead), and the award-winning Canadian super-star, Darwyn Cooke (DC: New Frontier, Catwoman), who also created the Montreal Comiccon 2015 poster art.

A special a one-night-only engagement on Friday, July 3

An Evening with Kevin Smith will feature legendary writer, director (and occasional actor) from New Jersey dispensing wisdom to hordes of fans. This interactive session is sure to leave fans with a memorable experience they will cherish years to come.

It was over 20 years ago that the world was introduced to Kevin Smith’s first movie, Clerks (1994), which won the highest award at the Sundance film festival and was brought to theaters by Miramax. The movie went over so well that Smith was able to make the cult-favorite, Mallrats (1995). Since then, he’s written and directed several films with large cult followings, including Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999) starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Jay Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), scripted Zack & Miri (2008), and ventured into horror with Red State (2011).

Saturday, July 4
