Trio Wanderer

Vincent Cocq, piano
Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabédian, violin
Raphaël Pidoux, cello

The Trio Wanderer has made wandering its unifying theme, taking its name from Schubert’s famous Lied Der Wanderer, D. 493. Indeed, “Wanderer” pays homage to Schubert, and more widely to German Romanticism which is often imbued with the leitmotiv of the wandering traveler. These three musicians are avid open-minded wandering travelers, who explore the musical world, spanning the centuries from Mozart and Haydn to our own time. Acclaimed in the international press for its extraordinarily sensitive style, almost telepathic understanding of each other and perfect technical mastery, the Trio Wanderer is one of the world’s foremost chamber music ensembles.

Programme

Gabriel Fauré : Trio Op. 120
Franz Schubert : Notturno D, 897
Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky : Trio Op. 50

(…) Currently, it doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to trios. Homogeneity, original sonorities, a very « physical » playing style, a free approach to the repertoire, the Trio Wanderer managed to establish an enviable reputation throughout the years. » Le Monde (France)
