Dover Quartet & Cecilia Quartet

The 2013 International Banff String Quartet Competition winners, the Dover Quartet, making its Quebec debut, will perform Barber’s Quartet op. 11. Widely celebrated, this young ensemble keeps amassing praise and prizes. Each of the four musicians has soloist experience, and the quartet has already recorded two CD’s. It also gives concerts for the association Music for Food, an initiative by musicians to help fight hunger in their home communities.

First Prize winner at Banff three years ago, the Cecilia Quartet made a lasting impression at the Festival last year. It will perform Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1 and to conclude the evening, will join the Dover in the famous Mendelssohn’s Octet.

The 19th edition of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival will present 22 concerts from May 8th through 31st at St. George’s Church at the corner of Peel St. and de la Gauchetière in the heart of Montreal; home to the Festival for the past four years, this venue is a beautiful example of English Gothic Revival architecture in Canada and offers an intimate setting of 500 cushioned seats with excellent acoustics. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m.
