Four world-famous vocalists to perform with Les Violons du Roy

Les Violons du Roy has built a significant following in Montreal, and they will be performing a Hayden program with their own choir, La Chapelle de Quebec on November 16 at Maison Symphonique at Place des Arts. The choir will be joined by four outstanding vocalists; soprano Helene Guilmette, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenor Frederic Antoun and baritone Tyler Duncan.

The Orchestra and Choir will perform Hayden’s brilliant Te Deum and the majestic Theresienmesse, named in honour of Empress Maria-Theresa of Austria. These are new works for the orchestra and choir, and Conductor Bernard Labadie reports that they are excited about the upcoming performances in Montreal and Quebec City.

The program begins with Hayden’s Te Deum, composed in 1799 for a commission from the Austria’s Empress Marie-Therese, who was a great admirer of Hayden.

The second presentation will be Hayden’s Symphony #5 in B-flat major titled The Queen for the ill-fated Marie Antoinette.

The soloists will rejoin the orchestra and choir for the evening’s final piece, Mass in B-flat major, Theresienmesse. It is the fourth in a group of six masses composed during the same period that Hayden wrote his two greatest oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons. Hayden was at the peak of his career when he created these works, and it is reported that the ovation for the premiere performance of Theresienmesse continued for thirty minutes.

The November 16 program begins at 7:30 pm and tickets are available at
