Host of the prestigious Invitation series, Charles Lloyd has been a standard bearer for a resolutely free and modern musical approach since the ’60s. Back after an 8-year absence, the famed American reedman, celebrating his 75th birthday this year, offers the fruits of his most recent sonic explorations, heading up a redoubtable quartet of Jason Moran (piano), Reuben Rogers (bass) and Eric Harland (drums).

For his second performance, Lloyd teams up with tabla player Zakir Hussain (Shakti) as well as his faithful drummer Eric Harland to revive a major concert presented at the Festival in 2005.
Conceived as a tribute to drummer Billy Higgins, the Sangam project has since taken on the aura of a masterwork, fusing subtlety and refinement.
