This is Young’s thirty-fourth album, but his first recording in 16 years with the original members of Crazy Horse; Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina and Frank “Poncho” Sampedro. As with other Young albums, Americana has a live and natural sound. Young has selected traditional American songs such as Oh Susanna and Clementine – however these are not the versions you sang in the backseat of your parent’s car on a family road trip. In a recent interview in American Songwriter, Young stated; “Every one of these songs [on Americana] has verses that have been ignored. And those are the key verses, those are the things that make these songs live. They’re a little heavy for kindergarteners to be singing. The originals are much darker, there’s more protest in them…” Recent concerts have also included Neil Young hits like Cinnamon Girl, and Mr. Soul from Buffalo Springfield. Neil and the boys will roll into Montreal for a November 23 concert at the Bell Centre at 7:30pm.
